CHS staff dons red for military

Crime Stoppers Month

Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn signed a proclamation recently for Crime Stoppers Month. First row left to right: Jack Blackwell, Jack Osborn, Det. Tolbert Rowe, Pettis County Sheriff’s Department; Carol Corpe, Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn, Floyd Hatfield. Second row: Gerald Evans, Detective Matthew Wirt, Sedalia PD; Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond, Archie Ross, Glenn Mishler, Joe Close, and Ronnie Ollison. Also two special awards were given to Mr. Glenn Mishler for his outstanding service as a member and past president of Pettis County Crime Stoppers, and to MaryAnn Thompson for her outstanding service as a member and secretary-treasurer of Pettis County Crime Stoppers.


$5,500 raised by relay team for ACS work

The Wal-Mart Relay for Life team recently raised $5,500 for the American Cancer Society.

The team consisted of Wal-Mart associates and their families.

The team received a $5,000  donation from the Wal-Mart corporate office. To achieve that, 50 employees had to volunteer a combined 250 hours, it was reported.

The Relay for Life program is a non-profit, all volunteer fund-raising program working for the American Cancer Society.

There are 37 Relay for Life teams in Pettis County alone, it was reported.

Buddy Poppy Days

Mayor Horn signed a proclamation last week designating Nov. 7 - 10 as ‘Buddy Poppy Days’ in Sedalia.

Skelton honors war vets

On October 20, Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO) joined 35 World War II veterans from Show-Me Honor Flight at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. ‘It was an honor to spend time with Missouri veterans at the World War II Memorial today.  Our nation owes these brave men and women our most profound sense of gratitude for their sacrifices and selfless contributions to our country,’ said Skelton. Show-Me Honor Flight is a volunteer organization that arranges one-day trips for World War II veterans to Washington, D.C.

Shooters is open
Shooters Bowling Alley and Lounge is now open at 2119 West Broadway. The Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon-cutting ceremony there on September 16 to celebrate the newly-remodeled facility. At the forefront with the giant scissors is David Wilt, owner;  and Kendra Mueller, manager. The bowling alley opens at noon seven days a week, and the lounge opens at 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Kendra DJs on Friday nights and youth leagues are held every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Saturday is Vegas Night at Shooters.

Stage 5 winner

U.S. Pro ITT champion David Zabriskie speeds past the Katy Trail on 32nd Street during Stage 5 of the Tour of Missouri, held Friday, September 11, in Sedalia. Zabriskie finished first in the time trials in 37 minutes, 14.44 seconds. He is from Salt Lake City, Utah and rides for the Garmin-Slipstream team.

Dog Days check for Animal Shelter
Ruth Schlomer, of Schlomer Photography, presents Becky Hardesty, from the Mid-Missouri Animal Shelter, with a check for $240 from their recent Dog (& Cat) Days fund-raising event.  This year¹s event was the first year that Schlomer¹s and the Animal Shelter have teamed up for this annual event held in late August.

Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn signed a proclamation on September 15 observing Constitution Week, which is September 17 - 23. The US is celebrating the 222nd anniversary of the drafting the Constitution.
